About the Artist

‘Haze Strickland (they/them) is a graduate of Print and Contemporary Practice at Limerick School of Art and Design (BA). The theme of their practice consists primarily of the exploration of fluidity within the self through mindfulness. They are primarily a contemporary artist with an emphasis on abstract minimalism. They use a myriad of printmaking and mark-making techniques to explore how meditation allows the self to grow and change. As a queer artist their work continuously aims to highlight the grace of being open to change. They were also the head of LSADs Poetry society and Queer soc and maintain a strong commitment to community organising.

Their graduate project ‘The Mercy of Fluidity’ employs meditative techniques to looks at the transformative nature of life.

'The Mercy of Fluidity'

The self is a fluid thing. There is no one version of the self.

We are constantly changing and growing and becoming. Once we accept that to be, is to be ever changing, we can relinquish the preconceptions of the self. We can become fluid. This fluidity is the truest form of kindness. To be fluid we must show ourselves mercy. To be merciful we must remain fluid.

The project explores how presence is a form of kindness. When one is fully present, they are open to change. They are fluid. Through being right where your feet are you are simultaneously open to everywhere. I want to show through this body of work how being present is a tool for growth and change.
